Rough Book

random musings of just another computer nerd

Month: November, 2002

I’m in California right now. Yeah… I thought I wouldn’t be able to make it, but I did. It was awesome. Thanksgiving was great. Tons of good food… The next day we went to Fry’s to buy stuff so that I could build my family a new computer. We were able to get a good deal on some stuff… but missed out a great deal on a Maxtor 80Gb harddrive that came with a 256Mb stick of RAM… It could’ve been generic RAM though… we did get a good deal on a 512Mb Mushkin. Well, anyway… built the computer… but then turns out we didn’t have an OS installation disk. Right now I’m using the Win98 installation off the old 8Gb drive. It seems to be working fine. I thought it would be pretty unreliable, but I guess the hardware profile was so different that Win98 decided to reinstall everything all over again. This is only a temporary solution until we’re able to install an OS on the 120Gb hard-drive… Still have two more days here… That’s good. Not really looking forward to going back…

Lab 9 Done

Lab 9 is DONE! Woohoo!

Working Code

Yes! My code works! Woohoo!

Family Pictures

I’ve put some family pictures up. I’ll be uploading some more… when I get time…

Fixed Sharity Light Problem

Fixed the problem. I had (wrongly) set the hostname for my XP box as D’OH! It should have been Works perfectly now!

FreeBSD machine configured

My FreeBSD machine is configured to the Cisco 678… I just need to figure out how to configure sharity light again… Hmm… Oh yeah, I took out the 20Gb harddrive from the XP box and put it into the FreeBSD box. FreeBSD recognizes it. No surprise.

Cisco 678

Got my Cisco 678 modem today. It’s set up and seems to be running fine. Ran into a few quirks (why does this always happen to me?) but ironed it all out. Need to configure my FreeBSD machine now.

AIT Ball Pictures

I’ve uploaded pictures from the AIT Ball I attended while in training at Fort Lee. More pictures from Fort Lee will be added when I get the opportunity.

Intel, Lab 9

Just got a call from Intel today. Found out that I’ve been selected for an interview there. I’ll be doing the interview… and if I get both (!) then I’ll have to decide which one I want. It feels good to know that I’ve been selected…

Lab 9 is pretty interesting! It’s gonna be hella hard… but… interesting!

New DSL modem, a possiblity of Employment and not going to California

Qwest is sending me a Cisco 678. The 675 doesn’t work with our current line. Also, using the Intel Pro/DSL 3200 USB modem is a pain. It royally sucks. Plus, my FreeBSD machine doesn’t recognize it. If I get the 678, I can just hook it up to the uplink port of the hub and then plug all the other computers in. Also, I’m buying ip’s, so I can set up the XP and FreeBSD boxes as servers. I’ll be transferring all my stuff from Marc’s server to mine then. I’ll finally have my own webserver.

My professor just informed me that I apparently I am a selection at Motorola. However, the decision hasn’t been finalized yet, so it’s still in the air. It’s good to know though… I was beginning to wonder if I had made it.

I’m cancelling my trip to California for thanksgiving. Lab 9 is going to be hard, and I need to spend all my time on it. It sucks… but oh well. Michael and I are planning to have a little thanksgiving dinner at our place. It should be fun.
