Temporary Pets

I’m uploading a new album titled “Temporary Pets”. Since Michael and I moved into these apartments, we’ve had a bunch of pets. They weren’t really our pets. They just seemed to be there in our house. Our first “temporary pet” was a cat called “Monkey 2”. I think something bad happened to “Monkey 1”. It was our neighbour’s cat, but for some reason it liked to come to our apartment. Then we had another cat. I named him “Dogma”. Cool name huh? Then there was a cute puppy called “Angel”. She was in our apartment for one night. It was another one of our neighbour’s pets. I don’t think they took very good care of her. I kept her in our apartment one evening because it was really cold and the neighbours used to put her outside. So I took her in and left a note on their door. They never came to claim her. So I went over later and the guy was all wierd. He was like “Why don’t you keep her?”. I’m like “I’d love to, but I don’t have the time to take care of a pet. It wouldn’t be fair on her.”. So he took her. I put an old box outside with a bath towel in it so that Angel could sleep in it. The next day, the box was gone, the puppy was gone, and the bath-towel had taken up a new job as a doormat. My conclusion is that they ate her! You think I’m crazy? You haven’t met my neighbours! They’re wierd! What else can explain the sudden disappearence of the dog? I am certain they ate her. Those bastards! Poor Angel! Well at least Angel is in heaven now. I know she is because “All Dogs Go To Heaven”. Well anyway, then we had another cat in our house. We donated him to the humane society. So anyway, I’ve got pictures of all of them, so I’ve decided to upload them.

New Projects

I’ve got a couple of ideas for new projects. I’m thinking of writing an online scheduler-calendar sort of thing. With reminders and stuff like that. I’m also thinking of extending the UI on the User page (from absolutely nothing to something). I’ll get the specs done over winter and hopefully I can start coding when I come back. Oh yeah, I’m also thinking of writing a Guestbook and logging visits to this page I’ll probably write the Guestbook first because it’ll just be a slightly modified version of the Journal.

Semester Done

The semester is over. Had my CSE 421 final yesterday. I’m a true CSE major now. I really miss that class. It was an awesome experience. Got CUPS working on my FreeBSD machine. I can print to my Windows shared printer. I also have OpenOffice installed. Trying to get the CrossOver plugin to install Trillian. Leaving for California on the 19th. After that I leave for India on the 21st. Can’t wait…

Got samba working on my FreeBSD machine. Now I can access NFS shares from my XP box.

I’m thinking of putting up a FreeBSD Journal here. I’m having a hard time remembering all the different things I’ve done to get my machine customized. It would help if I kept track of all the things I did. Plus, it will be a good resource…

FreeBSD Error Message

I thought this was a cute error message:

Unable to go to your saved /etc directory in ?! Argh! Something went seriously wrong! It’s quite possible that your former /etc is toast. I hope you didn’t have any important customizations you wanted to keep in there.. 🙁

To Be or not to Be

I’m gonna try out BeOS. Looks like fun. I’ll put it on the 20Gb HD on my FreeBSD box. The version I’m trying out is called BeOS Max Edition.

I just thought I’d add this… on my way to California, I had an interesting conversation with my Cab driver. It went something like this (this is a little ways into the conversation)

Cabbie:I’m only going to live in Arizona for a year more. After that, I’m going to live in Alaska
Me: Oh really? What will you be doing there?
Cabbie: I wanna be a Gold Prospector. And I wanna look for fossils.
Me: Sounds Interesting. What kind of fossils are you looking for?
Cabbie: Well, anything I can find. But what I really wanna find is a fossil of Big Foot.
Me: Oh… wow…
Cabbie: Yeah! Those things exist you know! One passed in front of my truck 20 years ago!
Me: Wow… must have been… interesting
Cabbie: Yeah. Apparently this guy found one up in Alaska but then the Government came and took it away. They government hides that kind of stuff from us. That and the UFOs
Me: Yeah… Totally…
Cabbie: Yeah. I know they have UFOs and stuff. All those abductions and things like that. They’re abducting people. I guess we’re like Lab Animals to them.
Me: Yup…

I reached the airport at about this time. So I wished him a Happy Thanksgiving and left. I thought the whole thing was rather interesting…

I don’t want to leave!

I don’t want to leave… It’s back to CSE 421… I can’t believe Thanksgiving is over… I JUST GOT HERE!!! Crap…
